July 26th Cranbrook Institute of Science: Meghan and James
Thank you to Jayne at Cranbrook, Andrew (DJ) and Dennis (Photographer) with Mike Staff Productions, Blumz, Taste Catering and Home Bakery for creating a perfect day for Meghan and James!
1, 2 Step Entertainment offers a full array of DJ services, but they are so much more than that! Tom Atkinson, owner/DJ created 1, 2 Step to be able to give any event that special touch and personalized service.
Rental options include everything from inflatable slides and games to themed party rentals and plasma TV’s. Basically anything you could possibly need to keep any party hoppin’!
They also offer an Online Party Planner so clients can choose their songs from the comfort of their own home at any time of the day or night!
They use LED Lighting, the most up to date technology and they do not burn out. Also, ambient Lighting is included in their packages – no extra charge!
But wait, there’s more! Of course, it’s all about the music. All of their equipment is powered, so there is no fear of speakers blowing or the bass being too loud. All of their DJs use Laptops so there is no skipping from CDs and every song imaginable is obtainable. Their extensive music collection has 56,000 + songs!
And of course, these guys are professionals from attire to performance. They’re unobtrusive and set up is all in black with no signage. Make no mistake; these guys know how to party and how to work a crowd. They even offer “party motivators” whose sole job is to get the party started and keep it going. Best of all, clients get to meet their DJ before the event, as many times as needed.
Thanks Tom, keep Detroit rockin’!

So, you’ve gotten engaged, called your parents, and updated your status on facebook. Maybe you’ve even hired your planner and started to get the ball rolling on your plans. Now, it’s time to ask your bridesmaids to be in your wedding. Sure, you could just call them ask them or get together at your favorite restaurant and dish about your wedding. Maybe they just already know that they’re going to be in your wedding, but where’s the fun in all of that? Why not go all out and do something really cool for your girls that they’ll remember forever?
If you’re the crafty type, you might head over to Something Turquoise for some instructions on how to build yourself a
little box filled with bridesmaid goodies. A bottle of
champagne wrapped in a tank top (to wear to your killer bachelorette party), a personalized champagne glass, bottle opener, and a giant diamond. Because what girl doesn’t love
Wedding Chicks has another great box idea that will help your girls make it through your day. There’s descriptions of their dresses, the other bridesmaids (given that they don’t know each other), what’s expected of them, and then a whole bunch of examples of your
colors and dress ideas for them.
There’s some amazing ideas over on the Wedding Bee Boards, like popping the question to them. There is some great bling that can be bought on a budget.
Another great idea from the Wedding Bee Boards is to get t-shirts made for them. The bride who did this included them in the box with a poem about her relationship with each of the girls.
If you’re more of the baking type, check out Marry This
where you’ll find instructions to make these cupcake jars, including how to make the lids and even the tea towel that goes with it.
These cookies from The Pastry Studio are a simple but adorable way to pop the question. You could do them in the colors you have in mind for their dresses, but they’ cute in white too!
Or why not combine several ideas? Make the cake jars and put them into boxes with the t-shirts, champagne and jewelry. Top it off with a poem that will make them cry! After all, they’re going to be a major part of the biggest day of your life. It's a fun and emotional time; how great that you get to spend it with the ladies that matter most in your life!
Wish Upon A Wedding.....
Is a national organization that donates weddings through local vendors to couples facing terminal illness or life changing circumstances. Such is the case of David and Maureen.
From birth, David and Maureen were diagnosed with cerebral palsy. They met 20 years ago on a sports team for people with cerebral palsy. David saw Maureen sitting on the floor and went to say "Hi". The first thing she asked was if he would bring pizza to her place the next day. To her surprise he did!
A month later they moved in together and have been together ever since.
They have met many challenges in their 20 years together. Maureen is permanently disabled and David is her care giver. In 1996 they had a daughter together, but unfortunately were forced to give her up. They were able to see her a little while, but the adoptive parents eventually stopped the visitations.
Maureen has always dreamed of a wedding. Finances and the fact that she would lose benefits made it impossible, until David heard about Wish Upon A Wedding. He applied without Maureen knowing and the couple was accepted.
Wish Upon a Wedding asked me to be their planner. I met with them in November 2013. I soon discovered this was an amazing couple. Despite their difficulties and impairments, these two are a force. Intelligent, determined with an awesome sense of humor. I couldn't wait to give them the wedding of their dreams. We decided on January 10, 2014 as the day for their commitment ceremony. A fabulous team of Wish Grantor vendors was established and we got to work.
They had a fun filled Engagement shoot at Silver Gardens Event Center in Southfield (also their wedding site). Dionne Haglund (The Shooting Gallery) and Aaron Mayberry (Style in Motion) donated their photography and videography services. We were in stitches the whole time! They ended up with fantastic images and footage.
One of the incredible experiences in planning their wedding was when we took Maureen to Bella Rose Bridal to pick out her dress. Maureen picked out several to try on and at the last minute, David added one saying "this one is my favorite". We didn't tell Maureen which one David liked, but it so happened it's the first one she put on and she fell in love with it. She tried one more on just for the heck of it, but the first one was it. Michelle and the team at Bella Rose went out of their way to make sure Maureen was comfortable and had the experience every bride dreams of. They even made a train for her wheel chair!
Planning their wedding was such a rewarding experience for me and being a part of such a giving organization and group of vendors (Wish Grantors) was just amazing. The wedding day was nothing short of perfect for them. Silver Gardens was a fabulous location for both ceremony and reception. Beautiful linens provided by Parsonage Events. Mancuso's provided stunning centerpieces and altar arrangements. Stephen Hulbert (Hulbee wedding) delivered a touching ceremony as their officiate. The Elysium Experience provided incredible entertainment and musicians. Sweet and Savory created such an delicious and beautiful cake, along with a cookie that looked like a pizza!!!
Other vendors included:
The Tux Shop on Woodward - tuxes for groom and groomsmen
Kyana Lofton - hair and make-up
Entertainment Express - transportation
Sizemore Selectives - stationary

Konnie and John's Story:
(WXYZ) - It doesn’t take much time hanging out with Konnie Tabbert to realize that she has a lovable and infectious personality. Her smile lights up the room, especially when she’s sitting next to her fiancé, John Jeffire. The pair met 6 months ago at a pub in Frankenmuth and were instantly smitten with each other. “From the moment I met him, I just wanted to know more about him,” said Konnie, 49. “I fell in
love with him.” John says he was drawn to Konnie’s vivacious personality. “When I first saw her and saw her smile and heard her laugh…there was a connection there, immediately,” said John, 51.
John and Konnie are just about as giddy as any couple preparing to get married. They both laugh as they talk about the music, food and mood they want at their wedding and reception. Sitting with them giggling, sharing their joys of life—you’d never know that one of them battles with a serious illness every
Konnie has Chiari malformation, a rare abnormality in the brain that causes part of the brain to extend into the spinal column. She was born with the condition, but didn’t start showing symptoms until she was in her 30s. The condition wreaks havoc on her central nervous system, restricting spinal fluid flow to the brain. She also suffers from Ehlers–Danlos syndrome, a collagen defect that results in very thin vascular system and hyper mobility. “It’s the glue that holds your body together…I don’t have that,”
said Konnie. “My ligaments are like overstretched rubber bands. ”For every weakness in her body, John’s support keeps her spirit strong.
“I know what’s in her heart, and I know what an incredible, what a strong person she is,” said John. “My background is in wrestling and I appreciate someone who is tough and somebody who can push through adversity. Since Konnie wrestles with her health every day, the emotional and financial stress of planning a wedding may be too much to handle, so one nonprofit is stepping in to throw her and John their dream wedding.
Wish Upon A Wedding is a national nonprofit that grants weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness and serious life altering circumstances. A Michigan Chapter was recently formed and
John and Konnie were selected as the organization’s first couple. “When I first found out about it, I thought, ‘what a great way to give back to an industry that has given me so much, because I’ve been in the industry since 1999,’” said Laura Allis, the president of the Michigan Chapter of Wish Upon A
Wedding. “I just thought, ‘what a wonderful way to give back.’” Laura heard about Konnie’s situation and knew right away that she could help.
“When I first met Konnie, she was amazing…the sweetest thing,” said Laura. The chapter’s team met with the couple recently to get a feel for what they envision for their special day. “The next step is determining what type of wedding they want, where they want their wedding—which vendors will be the perfect fit for them,” said Laura. Their chapter has nearly 125 vendors who have volunteered their services for these special celebrations. “Our hope as a board for the Michigan chapter is to do as many weddings as we can--it is our hope that we never turn away a qualified couple,” said Laura. “We are prepared
to do a wedding a month and we would love to be able to do that.”
For Konnie and John, Wish Upon A Wedding is a dream come true. “For Laura and her
team to step in and to give me a day that I don’t have to stress about, I don’t have to worry about where the cost is coming from…I can concentrate on being well,” said Konnie with a smile.
“I can forget this disease for a couple of hours.”

This was such a fun idea for a baby shower on the lake! Got a little wet getting the balloons out there though :)
Top reasons why you need a planner or coordinator for your event Know any engaged couples on the fence about hiring a planner or coordinator for their wedding? Here's a few reasons they might want to consider it!
Why hire Blue Heaven?
Event planners are professional advisers, coordinators, managers, mediators and organizers for your special day so you are able to enjoy it! Blue Heaven has the connections, experience and flexibility to solve any of these issues for any event. It’s an extraordinary day, you need an extraordinary planner!
My partner Chris and I have been in business for about 3 years now. We started shooting Fashion/Fine Art photography. A friend of ours asked that we shoot their wedding. While preparing for the event, we knew we wanted to capture their true energy as a couple as well as give them something different from the typical wedding day photos. It was such a great experience and to our surprise we became hooked.
Our style of photography is a fusion of Fine Art and photo journalistic style. I don't feel a couple should ever have to compromise between the two. For us telling the story using a photo-journalistic approach is a given for every wedding day. Photojournalism is not really a single style but serves as a part to a whole. I think there are a lot of things that sets us apart from the pack.
We use our engagement session as a training session for our couples. If you think about it. Most people haven't been trained to take a photograph. With our engagement sessions we go the extra mile to teach our client's confidence in front of the camera. These lessons are timeless and add to the connection between client and photographer. I feel a true connection serves to be priceless especially on the day of the wedding.
We believe it is important to get to know our clients personal story of love. Each couples individual story inspires us creatively and we work together to fuse a fine art vision into beautiful posed shots . Thus the fusion of Fine art and photojournalist style. I think this fusion also plays a large part in what sets us apart from other photographers.
